Polar Opposites is of a series of visual dialogues between two radically different artists who worked separately for a ten month period after deciding to do this exhibit together.
At first, Christian Albrecht and John R. Thompson didn’t know each other very well and subsequently didn’t see each other or talk to each other for most of the ten months.
Each of them followed their own aesthetic paths, other than the fact that they both liked each other’s work, they had no idea of how they could create a dialog or integration between their works in an exhibit.
When they finally did get together, they started pairing their work and it clicked. Christians self portraits were subliminal depictions of his inner psychology and John’s abstract relief works were intuitive reflections of his own inner psychology.
It became completely natural to combine a work or more by each artist into a single piece or visual dialog.
Polar Opposites is the kind of exhibit that can only happen when two artists are able to leave their egos behind in order to truly search for a new way of presenting and understanding their own work.
The best way to view the exhibit is without preconceptions.
Try to look at the combined works intuitively as did the artists.
Experience the exhibit emotionally rather than intellectually.
There is no hidden agenda, what you see is what you get.
