Ripple Effect

Richard Oosterom lived in New York City and Ángeles Toledo went there in 1984, so did I and I'm sure I passed them on the street or attended the same gallery openings, but I never met them.
Years later, after I had moved to México, I met Richard through Luise Ross, whose gallery had represented me for many years in New York. And through Richard I met Ángeles.
I identified with their experience of running a gallery and being part of the east village art scene in the mid 1980's.
I thought it would be interesting to do an exhibit of work by artists from the galleries that they were associated with, artmart and Casas Toledo Oosterom. As I continued to talk with them I realized that the east village galleries were only one part of their lives.
My idea of a formal exhibit of art began to evolve into an installation, which was more like a storyboard or a 3D book.
The exhibit became the story of two fascinating people.
It took on a life of it's own and I let it go where it needed to go.
Although the composition of the story is linear, it is also radial.
Like a ‘’Ripple Effect’’, any part of it radiates out in a series of relationships, of ideas and of people.
You can start looking at the installation anywhere, Ángeles Toledo and Richard Oosterom are the kind of people I like and admire.
They have followed their hearts and their intuition throughout their lives.
They do what they feel is important to themselves and what is enriching to others.
